Melisa Raouf, a finalist at the Miss England pageant, recently challenged the notion of beauty. Upon entering the pageant and winning the bare face round, she decided that she did not wish to wear make-up again for the finals.
The 20-year-old was the first person to compete in the final of the Miss England contest without make-up in its nearly 100-year history, to show girls they don't have to wear make-up to feel pretty.
But while other contestants of this round returned to wearing make-up for the final, she did not.

Growing up, Ms. Raouf was extremely insecure and uncomfortable about her appearance. She said, a comparison to an "unrealistic standard of beauty" shown on social media negatively impacted her mental health.
The King’s College student, Raouf, said she wanted to inspire girls who felt they couldn’t measure up to society's expectations.

The contestant says that ever since she made headlines, she decided to create her own online movement.
As the first makeup-free contestant in the competition, Melisa has become the face of a global bare-face movement. Allowing many people to hop on this trend. https://www.instagram.com/explore/tags/barefacetrendmovement/
Promoting self-love among women all around.
“ We can empower and show young girls that the most beautiful thing you can do is to be yourself.
“There is more to life than looking objectively gorgeous. Inner beauty and confidence will shine through far more radiantly than any makeup and filter will.”
