Birthday freebies anyone ??

Balloons, gifts, candles and cakes are just a few of the essentials that define birthday celebrations across the globe. These joyous occasions are marked by vibrant decorations, the sweet aroma of baked goods, and the delightful anticipation of unwrapping presents.

Birthdays are a celebration of love, laughter, and cherished memories. They are special moments when friends and family come together to honours the life of a loved one and express gratitude for their presence. It’s a time to reminisce about shared experiences, laugh until your sides ache, and savour delicious treats in the company of those who matter most.

But do you know where birthdays originated from ?

The History of Birthdays

Birthdays date back to around 3,000 BC, thanks to the Egyptians. However, their celebrations differed from ours. For Egyptians, a birthday marked the day someone became a god. When pharaohs were crowned, they were considered divine.

The Greeks adopted this concept, celebrating the birth of gods with moon-shaped cakes and lit candles, symbolizing prayers being sent to the heavens.

The Romans were among the first to celebrate birthdays as we do today, with lavish parties ad gifts for the birthday boy. That's right, these celebrations were exclusively for men. Women had to wait until the 12th century to join in.

Nowadays, birthdays are celebrated by both me and women. By the late 18th century, German children's birthday parties, known as Kinderfeste, closely resembled modern celebrations. Each child received a cake with a candle for each year of their life, plus one extra for hope.
