Caraval book review

Why you should read Caraval:

I gave this book a five-star rating.

The narrative revolves around Scarlett, who, influenced by her grandmother's tales, dreams of participating in the mysterious Caraval games, known for the magic they hold and coveted prizes. The ultimate reward is the granting of a once-in-a-lifetime wish to the winner of the game. Scarlett, persistent in her desire to partake, writes letters to the mysterious Master Legend, seeking an invitation. Eventually, her wish is granted, and the story unfolds from there, but you must remember it's all just a game.

The tone is similar to Alice in Wonderland but takes a darker and more thrilling turn. By the second chapter, you become captivated.

Throughout the book, I experienced a rollercoaster of emotions, as the story is skilfully written into a beautiful era, highlighting themes of fashion, friendship, and magic. Contrary to the assumption that the magic element aligns with a Cinderella narrative, it proves to be more intense, with a focus not only on the main character but also on the supporting cast.

The unique concept of the book, particularly the myths and legends surrounding Master Legend, fascinated me. The author's vivid descriptions of characters' faces and clothing to convey their emotions, eliminating the need for explicit statements about their feelings.

Stephanie Garber's "Caraval" is a superb work of fiction, featuring well-crafted characters with intriguing pasts that keep readers eager to uncover more. For those who enjoy books with plenty of cliff hangers, this is the prefect mystery for you.
