BBC Local Radio Cuts ?
In a recent announcement, BBC staff say they are making some cuts from local radio programmes under new scheme.
After the corporation announced that there would be some cuts, concerns were raised by the members of the Sir Lenny Henry Centre for Media Diversity.
Birmingham City University (BCU) hosted the event as pressure mounts on BBC to maintain black radio programs. After the corporation announced major plans to cut programmes and jobs at local BBC radio stations.
In this event, topics of programmes, risk of losing jobs and diversity at the organisation were discussed.

The BBC has 12 programs for both Black and Asian communities, and these shows are at risk of being cut down. Black producers and presenters at the corporation fear the cuts mean that shows targeted at African Caribbean, and Asian audiences, might disappear.
Award-winning journalist Nina Robinson conducted a study on this issue. She discovered that 6% of the BBC's Radio News senior leadership across the UK Nations were people of colour, and 8% across the entire News and Current Affairs division.
“ This finding was very shocking, I saw that in the BBC radio newsroom in Scotland and Northern Ireland had no journalist of colour working at any level.”
These programs helped Elonka Soros, development director @_CreativeAccess, connect with her neighbours and understand their struggles. BBC reducing these programs will result in further distance between people instead of bringing them together, she believes.
“When I listen to Black and Asian programs, it helps me understand their struggles and experiences.”
